Natural & Plus: New Paintings by Frank Hanavan

You may recognize Frank Hanavan from a recent Hoboken Girl post where he was plein air painting the cherry blossom trees on 10th Street. Frank is the people’s painter, setting up his easel on the sidewalk and capturing scenes of everyday city life.

A Buffalo native, Frank has been living in the area since the early 1990’s. Frank shares that Hoboken has always been a lovely subject to paint. Among his accomplishments, he received a 2026 Finalist award in painting from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

These new Hoboken paintings will strike those familiar with Frank’s work as a continuation in his favorite subject matter, but will also note a change in style and technique.

As of late, Frank’s style has become more impressionistic, and some would even say experimental. We treasure seeing and being part of his artistic evolution.
