Dan’s family line in Hoboken goes back to the 1850’s. Born to Pasquale Altilio and Evelyn Florio, Dan first lived on 3rd & Madison above his grandparents’ grocery store. He went on to spend his formative years living in the Hoboken Housing Authority. Dan attended St. Francis School and St. Joseph’s High in West New York. He was actively involved in the community through the Boy Scouts and as an altar boy. During his high school years, he worked for the Dell Aquila’s textile factory, and cooked at Steven Institute of Technology.

The main thread throughout his life has been St. Francis Church. Dan has participated in all levels of church activities – as a member of the Holy Name Society, Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council and the Caggianese Association. A major part of the church is the Feast of the Madonna Dei Martiri. Dan has been a member of the Societa’ Madonna Dei Martiri for over 30 years.

Dan has many notable accolades. He was a candidate for Hoboken Councilman at Large in 1981. In 2012, he was knighted by the Vatican to the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, and received an honorary Doctorate from St. Peter’s University in 2015. We must also make mention that Dan was one of the original founding members of the Hoboken Historical Museum.

Family means everything to Dan. He is married to Elisabetta Manzoni, whom he met at St. Francis. Together they have 3 children – Angelica, Pasquale, Maddalena, and 3 grandchildren.
