Talk: “The Last Drop Was Bitter: The Hoboken Maxwell House Story” by Richard Wright and Bob Foster
February 11, 2020 @ 12:00 am
For decades, the giant neon Maxwell House “Good to the Last Drop” sign flashed its animated message to the New York City skyline. The factory supported thousands of Hoboken families and permeated the Mile Square City with the aroma of freshly roasted coffee .
On Saturday, February 22, at 4 pm, learn about early Maxwell House history, the origins and innovation of the company, through its Hoboken factory years from coffee historian Richard Wright and Hoboken Museum director Bob Foster. The pair will team up for a talk about the history of coffee in America from the use of coffee by Union troops, to caffeine and capitalism. They will discuss Maxwell House’s innovations: freeze-dried coffee, vacuum-sealed packs and instant coffee.
Admission is $5, free for Hoboken Museum members and students.
