30 Years of Painting Hoboken: Curator’s talk with Frank Hanavan, on YouTube

August 4, 2020 @ 12:00 am

On Sunday, August 9, at 4 pm, meet “plein air” artist Frank Hanavan, live on YouTube, hosted by Museum Director Bob Foster and Rand Hoppe, for a curator’s talk about his 30 years of painting the Mile Square City. The artist will discuss why he finds Hoboken such a fascinating subject for over three decades, as images of some of his paintings are displayed online, and viewers can submit questions and comments during the event to the hosts. The livestreamed event will run from 4 to 5 pm online.

Frank’s paintings capture Hoboken’s many moods and scenes, in acrylics, watercolor and oils. From the pink “snow” that falls from the cherry blossoms on Tenth Street, to the waterfront and the many beautiful building facades, Frank has featured Hoboken at its loveliest, even in an everyday scene.

Frank’s work has been featured several times in the Museum’s Upper Gallery, and he has donated paintings to the Museum fundraising auctions, as well as countless hours as a volunteer, helping summer camp participants learn to tie nautical knots. He has also taught watercolor classes in the walkway by the Museum entrance.

The Museum and its Upper Gallery are open to a limited number of visitors during the Museum’s normal hours, as long as visitors wear masks, observe social distancing and take advantage of our sink or hand sanitizing stations.
