Hoboken Talks: Julio Fernandez interviewed by Pamela Strell

Join us Thursday, Jan. 13 at 7pm as world-class guitarist Julio Fernandez is interviewed by Pamela Strell.
Julio Fernandez was born in Cuba and raised in Hoboken, NJ, where he attended the public school system and is a proud graduate of Hoboken High class of ’72. He attended Montclair State where he majored in music. For the past 37 years Julio’s been a member of the Grammy nominated jazz group, Spyro Gyra, touring all over the world and playing on 24 of the band’s 31 albums. He’s contributed over 35 compositions to the band’s effort and has assisted in the production of the last few albums.
In the late 70’s & early 80’s Julio worked with songwriter Lou Stallman (It’s Gonna Take a Miracle and Yankees Theme) as a staff writer for his music publishing company in NYC and has over 100 published songs. Julio got most of his experience in songwriting there, as well as experience in the studio as a guitarist, vocalist, arranger and producer. Since then, he has played with many artists live and/or in the studio including: Bernie Williams, Richie Cannata, Dave Samuels, Slash, Emanuel, Willie Colon, Chuck Loeb, Tommy James, BB King, Phoebe Snow, John Mayer and David Broza.
In 2015 he had the honor of receiving the Award For Excellence from the New Jersey Education Association. For the past 10 years Julio has been involved with Voices Of Valor, an organization that provides therapeutic songwriting programs for veterans.
