Hoboken Talks: Peter Gutierrez, young model airplane and astrophotography hobbyist, talks with Bob Foster

July 5, 2022 @ 12:00 am

Join us online Thursday, July 7 at 7pm for Hoboken Talks when Peter Gutierrez is interviewed by Bob Foster,

Peter Gutierrez was born in Hoboken. In his words, “My families’ history in Hoboken stretches from the grills of Biggies clam house, through the shipyard and the Lipton Tea loading dock. From the streets of Madison to Park to Washington street, my family has left their impression on Hoboken’s history.” Since graduating high school, he works as a Geek Squad Agent repairing and building computers for Best Buy while pursuing a degree in Physics from New Jersey City University. The Hoboken Historical Museum was the first museum he’d been in, and he began working at the Museum in the summer of 2013, after finishing 8th grade. His passion for airplanes and flying led to an Upper Gallery exhibit called “Let it Fly: Model Airplanes by Peter Gutierrez,” that featured his growing collection of invented aircraft, and included a demonstration of his aircraft-making skills. In Peter’s words, “The summers I worked at the HHM were from 2013 to 2018. “Let It Fly!” became a reality and I truly enjoyed the experience. Many friends, family, and my educators stopped by and saw my models on display. I’ve volunteered as often as possible, from working the silent auction table or grilling hotdogs to facilitating a few arts and craft tables. From setting up to cleaning up, I enjoyed working for the HHM.” Recently, Peter has begun a hobby as an astrophotographer. He says, “Most of my images are of the Moon and shot on an iPhone with my 1 meter refracting telescope. On clear night skies, Maxwell’s Shipyard Park is where you’ll find me taking images of celestial objects.”

Peter, we are so looking forward to your Hoboken Talks segment, and hearing more about what it was like to grow up in Hoboken and where your passion for airplane design has taken you. Please bring some of your astrophotography!
