Oral History Chapbook Party: Carmine Percontino
March 13, 2016 • 4pm
Location: Hoboken Historical Museum, 1301 Hudson St., (201) 656-2240
In case you’re wondering about the large wooden box on a table in the walkway by the Museum entrance, mark your calendar for Sunday, March 13, 4 pm, when the Museum will introduce its latest oral history chapbook, “I Imagine My Town Being the Town Inside, Recollections of Carmine Percontino.”
Percontino, who is president of the Monte San Giacomo club in Hoboken, is the skilled artist who created this presepio, a tradition brought over by his uncle from the small mountain village of Monte San Giacomo in Salerno, Italy. His “presepio,” or nativity scene, draws on the local architecture and mountain ranges around Monte San Giacomo, the small mountain village of his family’s roots. The scene is open to view during the Museum’s open hours.
The event is free and all who attend will receive a copy of the booklet. Refreshments will be served. This project was assisted by a grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.
