Woman's powder compact, pocket watch style, issued by Martin Daab, Duke's House, Hoboken, N.J. No date, circa 1890-1905. Pressed decorated gold finish (marked "German Silver" on bottom) metal, 2" diameter plus fob ring; hinged lid with interior mirror; enclosed is a powder puff, 1-1/4" diameter: white felt with pink crenellated ring, ivory celluloid disk and satin ribbon pull. No evidence of powder on puff or inside.
The cover has "Martin Daab, Duke's House, Hoboken, N.J."
Duke's House was well-known bar (saloon) - restaurant at the corner of Hudson Place and Lackawanna Plaza near the Lackawanna Railroad Terminal. Daab was the longtime proprietor; this advertising novelty for women was uncommon.
