FROM THE SECRETARY Hello, members: I guess I’m supposed to say a lot of nice things, but really that would just be wasting time and what I really want to say is thanks to our wonderful president. Marion, who has given me the opportunity to be in the SSFC. I know I will never fulfill the place left by the former Anne Cassiani. I know Anne has done a wonderful job and I only hope I can live up to the standards that she has set-forth in her former position. I hope you members will help me get a good start because I really need it. You can help me by sending in your columns as soon as they are ready and I will assure you the paper will be done as best as my standards are permitted. Please keep me posted as to changes of address. Keep sending in your swell stories about Frank. Thanks members and please let me hear from you and send in your columns on Frank as soon as possible. I know it will be fun working with you. Terry Hope. 218 Burchell. Highwood, Illinois. (Reprinted from the Saturday Herald-American by request.) AMERICA Frankie steps from a stage door into an alley where a gang of ten youngsters are about to beat up another boy, Danny. They are typical neighborhood boys— dark, fair, pug-nosed, scrawny, fat. well dressed and poor. Dannjy has a bloody welt on his cheek. The conversation goes .something like this: Sinatra: "‘Well, somebody’s in for a licking.’’ Scoop: “You bet. We’re gonna smear him. We're gonna run him out of the neighborhood. We don’t like his religion.” Sinatra (sharply) : "Wait a minute. I got it. You’re those Nazi werewolves I been reading about?” The Gang: “Mista, are you screwy?” Sinatra: “Not me. Among the men being decorated are Joe Brady (Gene Kelly) and Clarence Doolittle (Frank Sinatra), who then get a four-day shore leave. Joe, considered the “wolf” of all his shipmates, is idolized by shy and timid Clarence, and the two spend their leave together. Durmg their escapades they chance to meet Susan Abbott (Kathryn Grayson), a beautiful Hollywood extra, who hopes to become a great singer. Through dubious methods they try to arrange an audition for her with lose Itubi. but at first are not successful. To complicate matters they both fall for Susan, Joe emerges victor, and Clarence becomes pacified with a girl from Brooklyn. A happy ending is evolved when Iturbi finally grants Susan an audition, and a new star is born. CHAPTERS May 20, 1945. Hello, kids: This is your new Club Chapter Head talking to you and I know we’re going to get along swell. I’ve got lots to live up to from the columns your previous Heads have turned in—but with your cooperation it shouldn’t keep me awake nights. To begin with, Marijane is my name and it’s pronounced "Mary Jane”— so don’t get gray worrying about it. I live in California and I expect oodles and oodles of letters and lots of cooperation from each and every one of you. If we’re going to get this club in the Modern Screen Fan Club Association’s top five league we will have to work for those ever-lov-in- points. So sharpen your pencils and let’s go. First thing I want to receive in my little ivy covered mailbox (honest) is a letter from each Club Chapter prexy, listing the names and addresses of all her members. Without that I’m like Frank without Nancy, so pleeeze help me. Make it soon too, huh? The requirements for points given in the MSFCA are for the following: 1. Fan-Fun Contest (best article or poem) 2. Most worthwhile club activity 3. Candid-Camera Contest 4. Contribution to war effort 5. Most active correspondent 6. Best journal 7. Cooperation with MSFCA 8. Greatest increase in members From that you can readily see how easy it is to make points if we really try. So I’ll be waiting to hear from all the prexys — and then we’ll really make Frank proud of us. Bye all, Marijane Hardin 217 East Belmont Bellflower, California P.S. If you don’t already belong to a club chapter please get in touch with me and we will form one. VITAL STATISTICS ON FRANK SINATRA: Born December 12, 1917[sic], at 415 Monroe Street, Hoboken, New Jersey. . . Parents are Martin and Natalie (nee Garaventi) Sinatra. . . both born in Hoboken. . . Father boxed under the name of Marty O’Brien, bantamweight. . . Last fight in 1926. retired from boxing because of broken wrists. . . The elder Sinatra is a member of the Hoboken Fire Department and daily crowds of Frank’s fans jam into the Firehouse to ask questions about his famous son. . . He always keeps a supply of pictures for them. . . Frank's parents are very proud of him. although his mother didn't approve of his joining the Major Bowes’ units, as she didn't think it right for a young boy to go off on the road alone. According to his parents, Frank was a normal kid, full of the devil, always getting in and out of some childish prank. . . Once, his dad relates, Frank decided to play “Cowboy” on a carousel and got his head caught in the roof. Little Frank had to have most of his hair shaved off and the carousel roof had to be pried open. Frank’s dad got the bill for it and Frank got a licking. FRANK SINATRA June 26, 1945 Miss Marion Tead 810 Grandview Ave. Highland Park, ILL. Dear Marion: I received the new cards and thanks so much. We have run into trouble about photos. Due to the paper shortage we are still unable to get more pictures and hope the situation will clear up in time. You see we send out thousands of photos and they are packed into mail bags. Well, a large quantity of envelopes were addressed and waiting for pictures—which just didn't come. So I am not sure whether your members are in this group or"not. If the other members did receive them, it is because they got into the bag betore"we heard the photos weren’t forthcoming. I know their envelopes were all addressed. Now as for the last cards, just received. I'll have to put them aside for awhile with other lists that have been sent. If vou like, I'll send you a bunch of membership cards so that they could at least have these. Or else I’ll wait and put them in with the photos when they come. I shall keep the new cards separate so we’ll see where we stand. I'm preparing a new bulletin for the AAFFA and shall have to mention the photos in this. To make things a little more complicated, T have a stock of photos on thinner paper which will be used — while they last — but thev take cardboards, and the cardboards haven’t come. If I don’t use a packing they’ll crinkle. It will take some explaining to the members — but think of all the explaining I've got to do, with all the clubs! Sincerely, Marjorie, Secretary to Frank Sinatra. Your club paper is awfully nice. ==== ==== Status: OK Status By: dw Status Date: 2015-06-05
