DescriptionThree pearwood framed drawing triangles made by Keuffel & Esser, New York, no date, circa 1892-1900. One each: no. 2121, 7-3/8", 45 degrees; no. 2120, 5-3/4", 45 degrees; no. 2110, 7", 30 x 60 degrees. Wooden triangles were typically used in drafting and drawing work. The style here is called framed from the joined edges, but there were also solid ones. The framed ones in this era were also available with a lined edge or in mahogany. Each is blindstamped, left to right where marked, with the manufacturer's mark, catalog product no. and the griffin trademark. No. 2121: marked at center of long leg with the round "Keuffel & Esser Co." mark with "N.Y." in center; probably made 1894-1900, possibly later, see below. No.2121: the same round mark but "New York and Chicago" in the center; probably made 1892-1894. No. 2110: same mark as 2120; location is on the bottom (shortest) leg; probably made 1892-1894. The "New York and Chicago" mark indicates manufacture between 1892 and 1894. Chicago branch established in 1892; St. Louis branch established 1894. The round mark with only "N.Y." would probably indicate manufacture after 1894 and estimated here as up to 1900 due to its association with the early group and its relative condition. This style of wood triangle was offered up to World War II. These items were made in Hoboken at the main factories of K&E.
