Object/Artifact
Maxwell House Coffee, Regular Grind, 1 pound glass jar. General Foods Corp., New York.; Roasted and packed by Maxwell House Division of General Foods Corporation, Hoboken, N.J.; Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, California; Jacksonville, Florida. No date, circa 1945-1949.
Clear glass (leather grained molded surface above and below label), 4" diameter x 6" high; printed paper wrap-around label; metal screw lid. Contents present (original?); jar lid is tight; unable to verify that the ground coffee present is the product made in the 1940s.
Lid top imprinted: George Burns and Gracie Allen. Two Great Stars in a Great Radio Show! Thursday Night, NBC, Maxwell House Coffee Time.
While unknown if this bottle was from Hoboken or one of the other plants, it is typical of the product issued by the Hoboken facility. Burns and Allen were the hosts of the Maxwell House radio show for the period of Sept. 20, 1945 to June 23, 1949. It is possible that the jar was issued prior to the first air date.
