So, on FamilySearch: Christof Dorn: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JFBD-WM8 In searching for Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse's passenger list for April 20, 1904, I finally found: Christof Donn (it looks like Dorn to me on the sheet), age 28, laborer, appears to be going to brother in Plymouth, Wisconsin? The passport suggests that Dorn (I think his full name is Christoph Knecht Dorn) is from Volksmannsreuth (aus = from or of), which is in Switzerland. Ebermannstadt, the other town mentioned on the passport, is a town in Bavaria in the Forchheim area, between Bamberg and Nuremberg (Bayreuth is also in the neighborhood). Since the passport is from Bavaria, it seems that Ebermannstadt is where Dorn obtained the passport, and the stamp reinforces that. But the passenger manifest lists "Volksmanreuth" as his last place of residence. Perhaps he was living/working in Switzerland, passed through Bavaria on his way to Bremen (or Cherbourgh, conflicting records as to where he caught the ship) and applied for a passport there. It was issued April 5, 1904 and was good until April 5, 1908. It's interesting that he sailed on April 12, 1904, so very soon after he got the passport. I searched for "Rowert (Robert?) Wenzel" and "Wengel" in St. Paul, MN, and got nothing. Once I found "Christof Donn" I searched Ancestry and found nothing more than the passenger list. Widened the search to "Chris Donn" and still didn't find him. Status: OK Status By: dw Status Date: 2014-05-19
