Object/Artifact
Monthly Commutation Ticket; August 1921; Delaware. Lackawanna & Western Railroad; Montclair and New York. Ticket sold to [Mr.] L. M. Requa. Printed pink cardstock, 2-3/4" high x circa 4-1/4" wide; numerous conductor's punches. Press numbered ticket: 435. Back has sales agent stamp for Montclair, July 31, 1922.
Good for 'Sixty Rides on Continuous Trains...' Note at left front the 'F' boxes for 'Ferry' passage, many of the outer row having been punched and no longer attached leaving a ragged edge.
While sold for travel to New York, the trains would operate to or from Lackawanna Terminal in Hoboken and required a ferry ride (included in the cost of fare) on the railroad's Hoboken Ferry at that point (or at the rider's own expense, using the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad - The Tubes.)
