Group of 24 black-and-white photographs of Hoboken, ca. 1970.
Archive
A group of 24 black-and-white photographs of Hoboken, ca. 1970. Most prints are 11" x 14" although some are trimmed. They were laid-in a home-made album of the same size. It was made of poor quality black matte board and black tape. "Hoboken" was in white vinyl lettering on the front cover.
The album was purchased on eBay from an antiques dealer who was selling the item on behalf of the owner. At our request, he queried the owner for provenance. The seller declined to provide any provenance beyond the on-line description that the group was produced for a government publication that was canceled. Besides the album, the only identification is a photographer's stamp on one print: Photograph by | Wm. Tremper | (201) 432-0799. This phone number was not in the local calling area for Hoboken nor is he listed in the 1965 Hoboken phone directory. Several have short ink notes on the reverse indicating concerns about matters like contrast and in one case the fact that building was no longer there. There is also pencil numbering in various hands. There are no negatives or deed of ownership. The Museum does not own the copyright.
The images have been cataloged and stored as photographs, 2002.192.0001 to 2002.192.0024. An image of the album cover is present with this record, but the album itself was not deemed signiificant for provenance purposes or as an artifact and thus has not been retained.
