DescriptionMasonic penny token: One Penny. Pentalpha Chapter No. 11, R.A.M. (Royal Arch Masons), Chartered Sept. 21, 1860, Hoboken, N.J. Issued to Charles W. Helmers, 1882. Stamped metal (copper?) coin; 1-1/4" diameter. This commemorative penny was used in a first degree initiation ceremony (as indicated by R.A.M. - Royal Arch Masons; related to American or York Rites?) of this masonic lodge. While marked as founded in 1860, the coin itself may have been issued up to several decades later. The coin had no value other than a symbolic one for the member to which it was given.
