Both outside panels have the same depiction of a twin screw steamer (ocean liner) which is not identified, but it is apparently the Rotterdam (4) of 1908, flagship of the fleet as its largest ocean liner.
Beneath picture on each side is a list of six vessels and their tonnage.
Rotterdam 24170 Tons (Tonnen on German side)
Noordam 12531 Tons
Potsdam 12606 Tons
New Amsterdam 17250 Tons (as Nieuw Amsterdam on German side)
Ryndam 12527 Tons
Statendam 10491 Tons
----
The date range for this item is based on earliest and latest dates of fleet service for some of these passenger ships: Rotterdam (4) joined fleet in 1908: Statendam (1) left fleet in 1911. See notes.
Also assisting in dating is the statement (English version): "All steamers are fitted with the Marconi system for wireless telegraphy and the Submarine Signal receiving apparatus." There are published newspaper and journal articles that place this installation as early as 1904 on this line.
----
Inside, two pockets, printed list: Passenger-Offices and General Agencies; Telegrams [cable address name].
----
Hoboken is not mentioned on this item, but the line used the Fifth Street Pier in Hoboken as its American home port from the 1870s until early 1960s. New York would mean Hoboken during that era.
Holland America is often seen without the hyphen and sometimes as American rather than America.
