All notes or captions are holographic ink by Thomas Godson. Folder 1: autograph letter signed by Thomas Godson of May 1, 1999 to Robert Foster re enclosed materials donated to the museum. Plus his business card. Folder 2: photocopy of photo, no date, ca. 1888-80 of a class photo from School No. 1, Hoboken with Josephine Barck identified as first person on the right in the front row. Holographic ink note by donor: My grandmother Feilner was Josephine Barck in this picture born in 1870. She is the right end of 1st row. Only info on back of picture is Sch No. 1 Hoboken. Miss Barten, Teacher. [She appears to be in the center of the bottom row.] Folder 3: photocopy of group photo, no date, ca. 1910 of a grammar school class, probably outside School No. 2, Hoboken. Clara Feilner is identified as the the seventh from the left in the front row. Reverse is blank. Holographic note on separate leaf (not imaged): No info on the back of this picture, but I have to assume it was my mothers Grammar School class in 1910. Mother - Clara Feilner was #7 L to R front row. Mother was born Oct. 11, 1899. [In folder 6, she is listed in the 1910 program as graduating from School No. 2 along with a partial image of her grammar school diploma.] Folder 4: photocopy of photo of classroom in School No. 2, Hoboken, no date, ca. 1910. Clara Feilner is identfied as the third from the left in the back row. Holographic caption at the bottom: Actual photo extremely light. Zerox made it much clearer. Have to assume, this is a classroom in Sch #2. Mother (Clara Feilner) is the 3rd from the left back row. Folder 5: photocopy of photo of Thomas J. Godson at about five years of age, no date, ca. 1899. Dressed in a sailor suit and holding a piece of chalk, he is standing next to a small chalkboard on an easel. Apparently he wrote his name and address on it: Tommy Godson, 808 Willow Ave, Hoboken. Holographic caption: My Dad, Thomas J. Godson, born 11/4/94. appears to be about 5 here. He only wento to the 7th grade when he had to quite (quit) school & help support the family. He went on to serve as a Cavalry Sgt. in France in WWI. Dad went on to retire from the DuPont Co. as the N.Y. State Mgr. of the Automotive Finishes Div. in 1959. Folder 6, two items: photocopy of Graduating Exercises of the Hoboken Grammar Schools at Gayety Theatre, Thursday Morning, June Thirteenth, 1910 [4 pp]; photocopy of a partial image of Clara Feilner's Hoboken grammar school diploma, 1910. (She is listed as student in School No. 2.) Folder 7: photocopy of obituary for John Wesley Lycett as it was printed in The Jersey Observer, Friday, October 13, 1905. A school principal in Hoboken at Schools No. 1, 2, and 7. Relationship to the Godson's or Feilners' is not indicated other than they may have attended schools he supervised. Folder 8: photocopy of the rear of two photographs showing Hoboken photographers' advertisements. No identification of what the front image may have been or which photos, if any, in this group they belonged to. William Manewal and R. Magnus. Folder 9: photocopy of Nov. 10, 1908, letter of recommendation for Thomas J. Godson on the letterhead of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, Hoboken by A.H. Lucas, Minister. With: image of the original envelope with the parsonage address, 717 Washington St. The holographic letter reads: To Whom it may Concern: I cheerfully recommend Thomas J. Godson, as a trustworthy boy, suitable for a position as an office boy, and believe that any one in need of the services of one of his age [he would have been about 14 years old] would be pleased with him, and his work. A.H. Lucas, Minister, The First Methodist Episcopal Church. Folder 10: photocopy of certificate of appointment for Thomas J. Godson as a Sergeant, Company B, First Regiment of The National Cadets of America, Hoboken, N.J., November 23, 1911. (Godson would have been about seventeen years old.) Note the blind embossed seal at the lower right. It states "Headquarters, Hoboken, N.J." Whether it is the military meaning and this was for the local headquarters or if it was a national headquarters for the whole association is not indicated. Holographic note enclosed (not imaged): Dad was a member of the National Cadets sponsored by the 1st Methodist Episcopal Church. The National Cadets, the Epsworth League and other similar groups were later replaced by the Boy Scouts. Folder 11: photocopy of Dedicatory Exercises, New Number Two School, Hoboken, New Jersey, Tuesday Evening, April 25th, 1922. [6] pp. including photo each of exterior of the old school built in 1867 and the new school. Folder 12: photocopy of the program for the Dedication of the World War Shrine, St. Paul's Church, Hoboken, New Jersey, May 24, 1931. [4] pp. Note that on page [3] there is an arrow pointing to text: The vases, given by Mr. & Mrs. George Godson and family, as a thank offery for the safe return of a son from the war.
