Object/Artifact
Commemorative medal: American Legion. 15th Anniversary Armistice Celebration. Hoboken, N.J. 1918-1933.
Hexagonal (1-5/16") gold-finished metal with relief; sewn ribbon 1-1/2" wide with pin clasp; overall length 2-3/8". Manufactured by Whitehead & Hoag (Newark.)
With" presentation case, marked in gilt on purple silk lining inside cover: Jos. Lutz, Juwelier, Mainz-Wiesbaden. Leather covered hinged clamshell box with spring clasp; removable purple velvet lined bottom insert with fold-out easel back; purple silk inside cover.
The German jewelry case was apparently a memento or souvenir from overseas duty used to store this newer souvenir of war service. The purple velvet lining shows the impression from a pendant with chain once found in the case.
Medal front has a profile portrait of a World War One soldier with the American Legion symbol. Reverse has the text for the fifteenth anniversary.
----
Hoboken celebrated this event on November 6, 1933 with a parade even though the armistice day was November 11th.
