Photograph album belonging to Jack O'Brien, Hoboken, covering family images from the 1910's to ca. 1970. Seventy-one digital images (plus later details) made of all leaves, partial leaves & enclosures. PDF on file.
The 573 images are of his family and friends and their activities from approximately World War I, his father served in the Marines, to the early 1960's which includes O'Brien's participation in fife & drum corps' in Hoboken. Selected images have holographic notes of location, dates or events, but very few identify individuals.
Selected images (by cropping) are catalogued separately as reference images in the photo catalog. See related. See notes for sets on compact disks.
Album is a typical stationery or photo store album ca. 50 years old with black paper leaves in a double screw-post binding with hard covers. The images were mounted at differing times and with some physical overlaps. The materials was scanned as received in respect to collation. Numbering of leaves for reference purposes was arbitrary. There were a number of leaves with small to large parts cut-away; others showed evidence of items no longer present. Besides images attached to the inside of the front and back binder cover, there were 24 primary leaves, original size ca. 10-1/2" x 13" wide plus 11 other partial leaves including 5 loose photos and a mailing label of Jack O'Brien's residence.
The chronological sequence of some images is difficult to establish as there are items obviously of different eras on the same leaf.
Detail leaf 18, recto, lower right: exterior B.F. Goodrich Co., 1415 Park Ave.; Jim (James) O'Brien center; others not identified.
Detail partial leaf A5 verso, left image: Office Girls B.F. Goodrich. Captioned by Jack O'Brien in 2013. The two young unidentified woman are outside a commercial or industrial building, probably not Goodrich.
