Print: Elysian Fields, Hoboken. (New York in the distance.) Drawn and Engraved on Steel by A. Dick. Plate 9. [As published in Peabody Views of New York City and Environs; Peabody & Co., New York, probably 1831.] Digital image only. A sentimental view of the famous resort created by the Stevens family. The building at the right is the Colonade (or Colonnade) House, a hotel / restaurant. Print as seen removed from publication. Plate 9 (marked above image at top left) probably appeared in Part III of this series of eight booklets (of ten planned.) The first issue had 4 plates and the full number issued was 38 so if the plate numbering was consistent, then it was probably in the third issue. Reference is Phelp Stokes, volume 3, page 599+ where this series is discussed and the plates listed. See notes. Engraver Alexander L. Dick is known to have done another view of Elysian Fields from a painting by John G. Chapman in this period. His source for the print here is unknown. The print was issued as a black-and-white engraving; the coloring is apparently later.
