Nurse's cape belonging to Dorothy Van Keuren with "St. M. H." [Saint Mary Hospital] embroidered on collar and her named embroidered inside collar. Hoboken, 1949.
Navy blue wool outer fabric, 32" long, with embroidered letters in yellow on each side of stand up collar; bright red wool lining. Name, Dorothy [Florence] Van Keuren, embroidered in red script. Manufacturer's label sewn in neck: Altro Work Shops, New York. Two double button (or double breasted) straps plus hook at neck; silver chain inside collar for hanging. Watch pocket inside right with red trimmed edge.
Van Keuren was born April 21, 1927 to Andrew and Ethel Van Keuren at West New York. Although they were not Hoboken residents, Dorothy would attend Saint Mary Hospital School of Nursing in Hoboken from 1946 to her graduation in July, 1949. This cape was typically issued to a nurse upon graduation.
