Archive
Black-and-white photo of view west on Ferry Street (Observer Highway) to Washington Street, Hoboken, circa mid-1930's. 4-1/2" x 7" wide copy print. Original source is not indicated.
The original Fabian Bar and Grill is at the northwest corner of Washington and Ferry Streets. Railroad freight (Railway Express Agency?) building at the left (the DL&W train yard would be behind it.) A Public Service streetcar is seen approaching at street level. The elevated lines went to Jersey City Heights.
Information on reverse of mount suggested 1948 as date, but as titled by Jim Hans, it is stated as it appears, mid-1930's. Also as described on reverse by Hans: stairway on the westbound side from elevated streetcar tracks leads to Washington St. Bloomfield Street was the the eastbound stop.
