Archive
Digital images of a scrapbook album: Third Ward Democratic Club, Hoboken with personal and professional memorabilia of Joseph Yaccarino aka Joe Biggie (minstrel performer and master of ceremonies) of Hoboken, circa 1925-1950.
TIFFs on file and archived. PDF on file.
The album is in the possession of the Yaccarino family. Mostly newsclippings with some photographs, event tickets and handbills. Many are related to the Club, Joseph "Daddy" Branda and Yaccarino's participation in its events (he was a member: leaf 8, enclosure 2 shows his membership card) such as May Walk, Minstrel shows, Masquerade and other balls or dances, Ragamuffin, dinners, banquets and outings as well as his performances and community appearances as Joe Biggie. Since it was a political club, many of them do have useful information about the political scene of the 1930's.
Clippings are for the most part undated; they appear to be from the local newspapers, The Jersey Observer or Hudson Dispatch with a few from an Italian language newspaper. See notes for a list of the leaves with information collected that may help date them or have some significance. The people who attended, participated, performed and worked on committees are extensively noted in the news articles. They have not been recorded in people authority files except for few notable ones.

Notes: Condition was very poor due to the usual brittle album pages and darkened newsprint plus the album was severely water damage and some surface mildew; extensive edge losses and chipping. The original was circa 50 leaves of which only 32 had items still attached or available for imaging (some leaves were blocked due to water damage and thus unscannable; others had only fragments of the original clippings left and were not scanned.) Loose materials laid-in were scanned as enclosures associated with a leaf number where they were found. Status: OK Status By: dw Status Date: 2007-06-25
