Scope and ContentThe Link of 1919. The Year Book of Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, N.J. Published by the Junior Class. 4to hardcover, 288 pp. plus 32 pages advertisements. This copy belonged to Barlow Day Drayton, member of the Junior Class, Class of 1920, with his name on front free endpaper. This issue is notable as it records the involvement of Stevens' students in World War I activities on campus as well as the institution's establishment of the U.S. Navy Steam Engineering School. The graduating class and other classes were signficantly diminished in numbers due to members leaving school to fight in the war. Noted is the death of the founder's son, Colonel Edwin Augustus Stevens, on March 8, 1918. Also notable is that artist Alexander Calder was a member of the Senior Class of 1919. He is seen in the group photo on page [46] where he is in the back row, fifth from the right; his short bio on page 48 which includes his home address, 58 West 12th St., New York, N.U. The current members of the Junior Class each have a page with their photo in current uniform from pages 66-156. It is followed by a section titled "Former Members of the Class of 1920" which has two pages devoted to four class members who died in the war. It continues from page 160 to 171 with "former members of the class of 1920, who left Stevens to enter the service of their country." These men survived the war and it has a photo of each and recounts their service history including if available discharge date. They are are shown three to a page. This followed by pages 172-173 with 52 names of former members who the yearbook personnel could not secure a picture; except for two individuals the information about each is very basic.
