Occupational Code. Office of the Provost Marshal General. No place, no date, circa 1917-1918. Printed sheet, 11" x 12" wide. Digital image only. Tiff media archive.
Classifying men by their occupation was necessary to determine whether they were essential to the homefront industries and also for skills that may have been necessary for the armed forces.
The office was in Washington, D.C. and presumably this was printed by the Government Printing Office or a War Department facility. The chart was for the use of Local Boards (draft boards) in World War I as related to their role in registration of men for military service. There are several levels of grouping by industries and services with many related trades and occupations listed.
No P.G.M.O. form number, but there is a number at the top left: 3-5083.
