Program: "You Know Me, Al!" A Farce with Music. Presented by the New York Division (27th U.S.A.), Lexington Theatre, New York, April 11 to 20, 1918. Booklet, [24] pp plus covers, illustrated.
This World War One presentation by the New York Division Theatre (which was the Twenty-Seventh Division, U.S. Army) was obviously intended as a public relations and morale booster plus there are promotional pages about being able to enlist in the lobby of the theatre as well as an ad to buy Liberty Bonds. It is notable in respects to Hoboken for its director, a Private Harry Gribble. Besides his credit lines and a caricature, there is a photo of him on page [7].
Gribble as Harry Wagstaff Gribble was associated with Christopher Morley's late 1920s theatrical productions in Hoboken at the the Rialto and Lyric Theatres where he directed the productions. He figures prominently in Morley's books about the theatre and Hoboken, "Seacoast of Bohemia" and "Born in a Beer Garden, Or She Troopes to Conquer."
