Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of U.S.S. Leviathan during war service; near port. No place (probably New York), no date, circa September 1917-February 1918 or December 1918-October 1919. 11" high x 19" wide visible in matte (presumed to be 12" x 20" print); contemporary wood frame; not examined out of frame. Photographer: E. Muller, Jr., N.Y.
Believed to be in New York harbor near Hoboken.
The two possible date ranges for this image is based on the dates when the the Leviathan did NOT have its dazzle camouflage which was only on the ship from March to December 1918. Since the camouflage was painted over with the standard Navy gray in December 1918 and the hull paint does not appear fresh, this is probably from the earlier date range.
