Trade card: "The National" Cleaning, Pressing and Repairing, S. Loewenstein, Prop., 601 Washington St., Hoboken, N.J. Printed cardstock, 3-7/16" high x 5-7/16" wide.
Front is a photo captioned: "Steamboat Hendrick Hudson" with the line: Compliments of "The National" cor. 6th & Washington Sts., Hoboken.
The view of the ship is from the Hudson River and looking northwest. It is docked at a W. & A. Fletcher Co. pier in Hoboken. The company's name is seen on a building and the location of the pier is ca. 12th to 13th Streets. The "Hendrick Hudson" was built in 1906 by the Marvel Shipbuilding Company at Newburgh, N.Y., for the Hudson River Day Line, but its final outfitting was done at the Fletcher shipyard. The vessel went into service in 1906 (for the New York to Albany run) so this dates the image of the ship as no earlier than 1906, but the card may have been issued later such as 1909 for the Hudson-Fulton Celebration.
"The National" was established in 1896 as stated on the card and had an early telephone number, "94-W." The text included prices by types of clothing and methods including "scoured." Notable also is text at the bottom: "P.S. - Cast-off Clothing Bought."
