"General Office and Factories, Hoboken, N.J." Oval black-and-white vignette being a bird's-eye view of the Keuffel and Esser Co. buildings. No date, circa 1920-1945. Print, smooth coated paper, 11" high x 17" wide; captioned.
This artist's aerial view with several automobiles and trucks plus one horse-drawn wagon was used from at least 1920 to 1945 as the image printed in the catalog and on other publications. The earlier version had only horse-drawn vehicles and the updated version was apparently first used in the 36th edition of 1921. The last catalog seen with the image was the 39th edition of 1944.
With: certificate from the Visual Communications Congress "Especially created for and awarded to Edward T. Grogan" - "For worthy contribution to the success of the Visual Communications Industry." Signed at bottom by four individuals with abbreviations of the organizations they represented printed below the signature line.
While undated, it is apparently from the 1960s (probably first half of the decade) from the geometric abstract style. While imprinted, the multi-color work appears to be silk-screened. Grogan, while not identified as such, was a K&E employee in marketing and the company was usually an exhibitor and sometimes presenter at these trade conferences.
This certificate served as the backing of the framed vignette print above which was received with only a partial frame and not retained. Shows staining and darkening from other framing materials. Sheet: 13" high x 17-1/2" wide.
