Photograph
Three albums with 21 black-and-white documentation photos of work on the stern frame of the S.S. Caprella at Bethelehem Steel Hoboken Shipyard, August 1 to 9, 1966. Photographs taken by Alfred H. Miller Co., Inc, 23 William Street, N.Y., N.Y. All albums are plastic comb bindings with green paper covers with Miller imprint and annotated in pencil on the cover: S/S Caprella Stern Frame. Photos are 8" x 10" images on 8-1/2" x 11" high sheets with imprinted data in bottom margin. Reverse of all are blank.
The photographs reveal the heavy-duty industrial nature of shipyard tasks showing three stages of work on an important structural element of a ship.
Albums were un-numbered, but have been numbered 1 to 3 by the date sequence. Prints were not in a numbered arrangement, but have been assigned a number in the sequence as found in the album including loose ones. Imaged views in this record are rotated as needed for best view.
Album 1. Nine photographs all imprinted with same data: S/S Caprella / Stern Frame Bs/bH 140 | Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation Hoboken 8/1/66. The views in this and other albums are in the Machine Shop (13th and Hudson Streets); workers are seen in some views; none are identified.
Album 2. Four photographs (print 4 in duplicate.) Data is essentially the same as on previous prints with the addition of "2nd Stage"; a changed job number "Bs/bH 141" and the date of Aug 3, 1966.
Album 3: Eight photographs (print 4 in duplicate.) Data is essentially the same with the addition of "3rd Stage"; a changed job number "Bs/bH 140-4" and the date of Aug 9, 1966.
