Photograph
Sepia-tone group photo of Graduating Class, School No. 1, 1918. Hoboken, 1918. 9-3/4" high x 13-3/4" wide print on 11" x 14" photographer's mount. Photograph taken by William Manewal as marked in image at lower right. Reverse is blank. Captioned by sign held by students.
None of the people have been identified. The grammar school students, a man at center (probably the principal) is flanked by two young women who are likely the teachers or a teacher and assistant. The women to the right of the man may be Florence Miller, who did teach in the Hoboken schools for her entire career. The man may be David E. Rue for whom the school was later named.
Students are seen wearing a ceremonial ribbon except for two or three; some of the ribbons are more elaborate than others possibly indicating honors. Some boys have boutonieres, gloves are seen on some young women and the young lady seated in the first row at the left holds a simple spray of flowers.
