Bronze medal received by Stanley Harzfeld, for "meritorius essay" in The New Inquirer Essay Contest at awards presentation, Hoboken High School, Saturday Evening, April 13, 1912. Cast bronze, lamp and books raised motif, with painted detail; 1-3/8" diameter, irregular petal shape; engraved on back. Maker's mark: F.A. McGough, Hoboken, N.J.
He was one of five students listed below the Bronze Medal winner, as "Five Other Medal Winners." (Below his group were six students in the Honorable Mention category.) His name does not appear on the medal. See archives 2011.001.0001.01 for Harzfeld's copy of the program that accompanied this item.
The contest was apparently not just for high school students, as Harzfeld went to School No. 4 and others students are listed for Schools No. 2 and No. 6.
The publication, The New Inquirer, published on a Sunday. Other information about it is unknown at present.
