Photograph
Digital photos, seven, of the Bethlehem Steel Hoboken Shipyard, circa 1975-1982. Original photos were 3-1/2" x 5", reverse of all were blank. Photographer not indicated. People are not identified. Tiffs media archive (scans, 200 percent or larger; enhanced and unenhanced for 01-04; unenhanced 05-07.)
Photographer was either Anton Peskens, a Hoboken resident who was either a current or past employee of the yard when these photos were taken, or a member of his family.
The photos, taken from an elevated location, appear to have been photographed from a building roof on that site of the Maxwell House Coffee factory which was just south of the shipyard. Peskens was once an employee of Maxwell House (see archive catalog 2008.062.0002 for his employee identification cards.) See photo catalog 2008.0104 for a photo of Peskens on what is believed to be a Maxwell House plant building rooftop.
Photos 01-04 show the yard in wide views some of which include the former Lipton Tea building, the Seatrain docks and other waterfront activity at the north end of Hoboken's waterfront. Weehawken Cove is partially seen including old Erie Railroad buildings in Weehawken where Lincoln Harbor is now located.
Photos 05-07 are closer views of the Bethlehem Shipyard buildings near the south end of the yard and can be place by comparing those views to the wide view seen in the bottom half of photos 01 or 03.
