Interior views of the architecture, decor and furnishings of the bank structure built in 1929 for the Hoboken Bank for Savings (established 1857) which moved into its new building from its previous main location at 84 Washington St. (diagonally across the intersection of Newark and Washington Streets.) Banking discontinued in this building in October 2008. See notes. Images 020 to 030 and 002 to 006 are views in the main banking hall or room on the first floor which was the full width and height of the building. The interior had retained much of its original decor such as the marble walls, classical polychrome frieze and pilasters, hanging light fixtures, wall sconces, wall clock, teller cages, customer counters and door surrounds of the main entrance and the entry to the safe deposit area (which was in the basement.) More modern furnishings such as office cubicles, plexiglass security barriers, etc. can be seen. Images 007 to 119 are views of the wood paneled board room which was on the second floor at the southeast corner. It had been stripped of other furnishings, but the built-in bookcases plus the carved wood panels and other molding still remained.

Notes: Sometime in the 1970s, Hoboken Bank for Savings was renamed as the Washington Savings Bank [1975 telephone directory: "(formerly Hoboken Bank for Savings)"] By the 1990s, it had became a branch of Hudson United Bank. Circa 2007, Hudson United was purchased by TD Banknorth and was renamed as a TD Banknorth branch. In the fall of 2008, TD Banknorth had other branches in Hoboken as well as it now owned Commerce Bank which had a branch in Hoboken in a historic bank structure only a block away at Newark and Hudson Streets. TD Banknorth announced in late October 2008 it would now operate TD Banknorth and Commerce Bank under the new brand name of TD Bank. The building at 101 Washington was no longer needed and was closed in October 2008. Most major furnishings were removed or discarded.
