Trade card: Hirschberg, The Hatter. 158 Washington St., Hoboken. No date, circa 1876-1890. Color lithographed card front imprinted in black; back imprinted in black; 2-1/8" high x 4-1/8" wide.
Gustav Hirschberg came to America in 1861 from Prussia and established a business making caps and hats in 1872 . He became a Hoboken resident in 1876. This street address is an old number and corresponds to 334 Washington St.
Card has a number on the front at lower right corner, 404, which is probably a catalogue stock number. The color printed card was probably imported from Germany and imprinted locally with the business name.
The artwork depicts a boy pushing a hand truck with a large hat on it with a girl behind pointing the direction.
