Sepia-tone photo of the S.S. Leviathan in New York harbor and heading south in departing from New York, no date, circa mid-1920s. 8" x 10" print. No photographer indicated (see below.) Reverse is blank. Corner damage as seen. Slight sulphiding.
View is northeast with the Battery behind (note also the skyscrapers of the period including the Woolworth Building to the left.) The ocean liner is freshly painted in the colors of the United States Lines. The liner was being returned to commericial passenger service on the North Atlantic.
This ship, the former Vaterland, operated as a troop ship in World War I from the Port of Embarkation in Hoboken and was later laid up in Hoboken.
