Photograph
Sepia-tone group photo of the boys in the Class of January 1948, David E. Rue School, Hoboken, 1948. 8" x 10" print. Photograph by Rossi Studio, Hoboken as indicated in image at lower right. Reverse of print blank. Individuals are not identified.
Photo taken on a stage in the gymnasium. Graduating class would have been in the eighth grade and each student has a boutoniere with a ribbon and holds a diploma. Note though how the boys are arranged by size from front to back; some of the boys in the front appear rather young or small for the grade. Apparently the girls were assembled for a separate photograph.
On the wall behind are depictions of flags of the allied nations of World War II. A communication from John Russo that accompanied this print stated the painted flags were done by the students "in deference to the 2nd world war." Also, it noted that they believed one of the students was an Eric Lawton, whose family had a funeral home at Fourth and Adams Streets and "moved to Washington St." [Lawton-Turson Funeral Home at 7th and Washington Sts.]
