Photograph
Black-and-white photo of Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad float bridges on Hudson River south of Lackawanna Terminal, Jersey City & Hoboken, May 9, 1941. 8" x 10" wide print. Photographer not indicated. Typewritten caption on reverse (see below) with print / negative file number.
Typewritten text on back:
CP 1237 May 9, 1941.
Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad, Hoboken.
Six pairs of wooden pontoon float bridge looking west from Pennsylvania Railroad tug [tugboat] Lancaster.
The background structures to center and right are the D.L. & W. coal piers (Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Coal Co.) The photo location is given as Hoboken because that was the center of the railroad's operations on the west side of the Hudson in the New York area, but the area seen was actually in Jersey City. Lackawanna Terminal is out-of-view and would be a few hundred feet to the right (north on the river.)
While not so marked, this photograph is believed to be a documentation photo for the Port Authority of New York. The file number using the designation 'CP' has been seen on other photos known to have been taken for or issued by the Port Authority.
