Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of three jtiney buses with R. B. Davis Co. advertising for Davis OK Baking Powder, Columbus, Ohio, September 27, 1922. 8" x 10" wide print. Photographer not indicated; holographic ink text at lower right on print and in border; reverse is blank.
A good example of consumer advertising of the period by Davis for its signature product which was made in Hoboken at that time.
Text as found at lower right, line for line:
Cars # 68-58-54 Div. #2 R. B. Davis Co.
9/27/22
Columbus O. C.J.M. [Columbus Jitney Mobile Co.?]
Car #49 Out of city time of taking this
In the right background is a train car (either a streetcar / trolley or inter-urban type). The Columbus Jitney Mobile Co. was created by an advertising man circa 1915 or 1916. Note all three motor vehicles have the same advertising - painted beneath the windshield "Davis Baking Powder" and on side panels "Davis Baking Powder, It's Positively Pure." On the first car only is a can-shaped painted panel depicting the product can at the driver's position and on the windshield a sign "Perfect Results."
From the text on the print, it is probable that this photo was documentation of the advertising taken by the company as proof to Davis that the service was deilvered.
