Sepia-tone photo of Lambiase Band of Hoboken, July 26, 1903, St. Ann's Day. (In Hoboken?)
Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of the Lambiase Band of Hoboken posed on the front steps and entryway of a house or hotel, July 26, 1903. (St. Ann's Day.) 3-5/8" high x ca. 4-3/4" wide print on photographer's mount, 5-1/8" x 7-1/8" wide. Photographer not indicated. Reverse is blank. Dated beneath image in ink script with "St. Ann's Day" in block letters by a different hand next to it. None of the people are identified.
The location is unstated and may or may not be Hoboken. It is possible that the band was at an event held outside of Hoboken; local organizations often participated then (as now) in parades and pageants in other towns.
Also unstated is the church which sponsored this Saint Ann celebration. If in Hoboken, the most likely attribution would be St. Ann's or St. Mary's (Our Lady of Grace), but there were other local churches.
Note the building entry where the large group is posed. All are in uniform; bass drum is painted with the band name and city.
In 2016, we recieved an email from Alessandro Lambiasi of Brasil, who identified his great-grandfather Errico Lambiase as the gentleman with the largest mustache behind the bass drum on the left side of the photograph.
