Black-and-white photos, two, of a dinner and ceremonial cake being cut at event with Coast Guard officers at the Hoboken Y.M.C.A., Hoboken, no date, ca. 1946-1950. 5" x 7" wide prints. Photographer not indicated. Reverse of both is blank. None of the individuals are identified.
The Y served as host for United Service Organization (U.S.O.) activities during World War II. It is believed that the military service was the Coast Guard rather than Navy.
photo 1: the dinner with men, women and Coast Guard officers seated at tables; women with corsages; balding man at center of head table in formal wear.
photo 2: an officer is about to cut a decorated sheet cake with many attendees looking on included the balding man seen in photo 1 standing at the right. Tall item at center of cake is a burning candle with extensive drips (a large diameter candle - not a birthday cake size candle.)
