Sepia-tone photo portrait of Ole Singstad, Chief Engineer who completed the Holland Tunnel, ca. 1929, N.Y.
Photograph
Sepia-tone photo portrait of Ole Singstad, Chief Engineer who completed the Holland Tunnel, taken circa 1928, New York, N.Y.
8" x 10" high print. Photograph taken by Blank & Stoller, Inc., N.Y.(credit lower right in image and inkstamp on reverse.) Issued by the Reverse has a typewritten caption adhered to it plus several other markings as noted below.
Apparently a formal photo for publicity purposes and probably for display in offices; while this copy was likely issued in 1929, the photo was probably taken in 1927, the year the tunnel opened.
Singstad worked under Clifford Holland, the tunnel's designer and Chief Engineer until his death on October 27, 1924. He continued as an assistant to Milton Freeman, the Chief Engineer who succeeded Holland. Freeman died on March 24, 1925 and Singstad became the new Chief Engineer.
Reverse markings:
Typewritten caption: Ole Singstad, Chief Engineer who completed tunnel.
