Object/Artifact
Phonographic recording, spoken word, "Talk to Gertrude" by Daddy Reiner, no place, December 25, 1939. Single-sided 8" diameter recording, speed not known. Reverse marking: Presto U.S.A. Holographic captions and date.
Daddy Reiner is probably Emil Reiner and Gertrude may be his daughter. Her mother is probably Emma Wermuth Reiner. cf. objects catalog 2003.039.0001 for their marriage certificate. Another recording by Daddy Reiner to "Mama" is objects catalog 2003.039.0002. Since Reiner was a chef in Atlantic City in 1909, it is possible that they still lived there and that this recording would be typical of the kind that could be made along the Boardwalk area.
