Video of fire at Hoboken Fire Department Firehouse, 1313 Washington St., Hoboken, n.d., ca. 1988-1990. Color, sound. Running time: 1:02. Digital video disk; three copies (copies 1 + 2 at HHM; copy 3 HFDM.)
The fire broke out in the second floor while fire company was present during training exercises (training work had no connection to the fire.) The recording of the scene started very shortly after the alarm was sounded and shows the activity at the scene over several hours. A remarkable visual document of a fire and the Fire Department and firemen in action made even more notable by the fact that an active firehouse on the National Register for Historic Places (built 1891) was involved.
Transferred from original a VHS cassette tape 2011 in the collection of Hoboken Fire Department Museum. Original donor not known. Video taken by resident living on on an upper floor on the west side of Washington Street directly across from firehouse. Person videotaping and the family have not been identified, but their voices are heard occasionally. Sounds of fire personnel and radio calls are heard.
