Photograph
Sepia tone photo of Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad freight warehouse; Railway Express Agency, Ferry Street between Washington and Bloomfield Streets, Hoboken, November 4, 1931.
8" x 10" wide print. Photograph taken by R. Magnus (credit emboss at lower right); dated by him in image. Reverse is blank, but has modern (ballpoint) ink notations in lower border: Warehouse Observer Highway between Washington + Gardent St.
Observer Highway was called Ferry Street at that time. Although handwritten notation states between Washington and Garden, this view does not cover two blocks. This view is between Washington and Bloomfield (note street level trolley tracks at left that curve towards the bottom of the photo; they would be connecting to Washington Street.)
View is south to loading docks with two Railway Express Agency delivery trucks seen. Each has advertising sign for Wrigley's Spearmint Gum.
Elevated tracks seen above Ferry Street for the Public Service Coordinated Transport that went to the upper level of its terminal on Hudson Place.
This photo is from an accession group that consists of photographs from Hoboken Police Department records. Discarded in the 1990s, the original documentary purpose of this photo is not stated or apparent.
