Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad conductor's check, eastbound from Denville to New York. No date, circa 1890-1900. Printed paper, one side only, 2-1/2" high x 5-5/8" wide; 4 punches; creased and worn.
Rail travel on the DL&W between New York and points in New Jersey began and ended at Lackawanna Terminal in Hoboken (listed as the stop before New York in station column) with a ferry ride required to or from New York. Note: no mention of the ferry is made on the ticket.
Form A. Check serial no. 192773. Travel was on September 28 (as punched 9 and 28) but no year for form is noted.
All text in blue ink except red ink used for serial number and this text: Redeemable at TEN CENTS on presentation at any Ticket Office of this Company in the State of New Jersey.

This ticket must be punched and delivered to the passenger paying fare to the conductor as evidence of such passenger's right to receive the excess of fare so paid.
