Sepia tone photo of 3rd Annual Hoboken Baby Parade, King & Queen royal carriage, on Garden between 10th & 11th Sts., Hoboken, Sept. 8, 1915.
Photograph
Sepia tone photo of Third Annual Hoboken Baby Parade, King Raymond Butler & Queen Lillian Rabbe in royal carriage, on Garden Street between Tenth and Eleventh Streets, Hoboken, September 8, 1915.
2-13/16" high x 4-5/8" wide print. Photographer not indicated. Ink numbered in lower right border: 112. Reverse has contemporary ink annotations; inkstamped date; oval inkstamp of H. Jaffee, 118 Washington St., Hoboken.
This photo and .0005 in this accession were taken only minutes apart.
The photo is from a group of 6 baby parade photos, .0004 to .0009, that were apparently from the Elysian Camera Club, 307 Washington Street, and taken by a club member, probably Hermann Jaffee. It is a small, but rich series with text describing the event and the scenes (although sometimes confusingly.)
The view is looking southwest from near Eleventh St. of the west side of Garden St. The parade is going north on Garden. The decorated horse-drawn carriage has two horses, two coachmen and a footman. The children, Raymond Butler and Lillian Rabbe, King and Queen, were not babies, but appear to be at least 5-7 years of age.
