B+W photo of Erie-Lackawanna Hoboken Terminal west facade, ferry section & plaza Hoboken, n.d., ca.1960s.
Photograph
Black-and-white photo of Erie-Lackawanna Hoboken Terminal west facade of ferry section of terminal, Hoboken, no date, circa 1960s.
3-1/4" x 4-11/16" wide. Photographer not indicated, but it was probably Jack O'Brien of Hoboken. Reverse has modern holographic ink notation by O'Brien: Ferry Station; Sloan statue in Original Location B4 move; also inkstamped number 22 of print processor.
View is southeast. Note the Sam Sloan statue is indeed in its original location. Lackawanna Plaza is essentially a parking lot and there does not appear to be routine pedestrian lanes to reach or exit from the ferry slips.
The Erie-Lackawanna sign (which appears rather fresh and unweathered) is from after the October 1960 merger and likely from at least 1961. The railroad dropped the hyphen about 1964, but they probably would not have spent money to change the sign. Ferry service ended in November 1967.
