Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of ferry and floating boat clubhouses at Fourth Street and Hudson River Hoboken, no date, circa 1920s.
Digital image only; original print 3-1/4" high x 5-1/2" wide; reverse has pencil notes (transcribed below) apparently by proprietor Louis Jennes. Photographer not indicated.
View is east at the Hudson River and River Road with the Atlantic Yacht Club floating clubhouse at the upper left of the scene and the Fifth Street Pier of Holland America Line in the background.
A small ferry is centered in the photo with five people (two women and three men, none are identified although one may be Louis Jennes.) Floating behind them is a shack or shed that was a location used by the motion picture "On the Waterfront" when it filmed in Hoboken in 1952-1953 as the office of the union boss, Johnny Friendly, played by actor Lee J. Cobb.
