Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of hull repair near bow of the S.S. Iberville in dry dock at the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard, Hoboken Division, no date, ca. 1943. Photo taken by William Craig. Two copies. Copy 1: 7-1/2" x 9-1/2" wide print. Reverse is blank except for photographer's ink stamp at lower right. Copy 2: 7-1/2" x 9-1/2" wide print. Reverse has a 4-line holographic inscription by the photographer identifying the ship: S.S. Iberville | Bethlehem Steel Co | Shipbuilding Division | Hoboken, N.J.
View is probably to the northeast. The men on scaffolding have burned out rivets from hull plates. Possibly they are preparing to add armor plating. The S.S. Iberville was converted in 1943 from a freighter to a military provisioning ship and recommissioned as the U.S.N. Hyades.
